Launch of demonstration experiment to identify areas affected by power outages and water service interruptions by linking power data in emergency situations

Today, Chubu Electric Power launched a demonstration experiment (hereinafter "this demonstration") in collaboration with the Toyota City Waterworks and Sewer Department (hereinafter "Toyota City") and the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (hereinafter "NIED") to identify areas affected by power outages and water service interruptions by linking power data during disasters and other emergencies.

In certain areas of Toyota City where water is supplied by water pumps, water service is interrupted during power outages. In such cases, we manually cross-reference power outage information from Chubu Electric Power Grid Co., Inc. (hereinafter "Chubu Electric Power Grid") with information on Toyota City's water supply facility to identify the areas affected by power-related water outages and determine the priority for restoration efforts; however, gaining a swift and accurate understanding of the situation remains a challenge.

In this demonstration, we aim for effective and efficient water outage restoration by automatically coordinating and visualizing Chubu Electric Power Grid's power outage information and Toyota City's water supply facility information on a system currently being developed by NIED (SIP4D-Sens (note)), thereby enabling real-time identification of areas affected by power and water outages.

Moving forward, the three parties aim to establish a mechanism to rapidly and accurately grasp the impact of power and water outages through this demonstration, and will proceed with considerations toward its practical application.
