Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. and Chuden Telemetering LLC (hereinafter referred to as "the two companies") today signed an "Agreement on the Utilization of Water Smart Meters" with Handa City. The agreement aims to improve the efficiency of water utility operations and enhance services for residents through the exploration of further water smart meter deployment, the resolution of issues related to automatic meter reading, and the utilization of water consumption data.

Background of the Agreement

In recent years, the environment surrounding water utilities has become increasingly challenging due to factors such as population decline, a reduction in staff, and aging infrastructure; as a result, there is a growing need to streamline operations and leverage digital technology to ensure the sustainable operation of water utilities.
In addition, with the progress of an aging society, the enhancement of monitoring systems to support elderly people living alone and others in the community has become a critical issue.
Against this backdrop, the two companies and Handa City have decided to enter into this agreement. This aims to streamline meter reading operations by promoting the widespread adoption of water smart meters already in use and transitioning from centralized meter reading panels to automatic meter reading in apartment complexes. It also seeks to leverage its expertise in smart meter communication technology and data utilization to explore ways to improve the efficiency of water meter reading operations, advance digital transformation (DX), and examine the potential for new resident services based on water consumption data.

Contents of the Agreement

1. Examination of measures to further promote the adoption of water smart meters
2. Efficiency improvements in water meter reading operations and advancements in automatic meter reading technology
3.Utilization of water consumption data and promotion of DX and digitization(note1)
4. Examination and demonstration of monitoring services for elderly people living alone and others, utilizing water consumption data(note2)
5. Other issues necessary to achieve the objectives of the agreement
