Press Release
Naming of the LNG carrier (first ship of Chubu Electric)
September 05, 2014
Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc.
Today, Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. ("Chubu Electric") gave the name "Seishumaru" to the new LNG carrier ship (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ship No. 2297) constructed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. in their own Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works and to be joint-owned together by Chubu Electric, Mitsubishi Corporation ("MC") and the Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha ("NYK Line").
The ship's name "Seishumaru" is derived from the name of the old province, "Ise Province," which used to exist in the north-central part of present-day Mie Prefecture. This region serves as the location of our LNG receiving terminals (Kawagoe and Yokkaichi).
This ship will be the first vessel acting as a long-term charter LNG transport ship for the projects in Australia *. After completion, we are expecting for the ship to be used for projects in the United States, etc., in addition to Australia.
We will continue our efforts towards flexible and efficient LNG transport in the future in order to deliver a stable supply of safe and affordable energy to our customers.
*Expecting each of the Gorgon, Ichthys, and Wheatstone LNG projects
