Changes in Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station's FY2018 Schedule for Transportation of New Fuel

Chubu Electric Power would like to announce that it has made changes, as provided below, to the schedule for transportations of low-level radioactive waste. This delivery was described in "Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station's FY2018 Schedule for Transportation of New Fuel," a press release issued on March 30, 2018.

(Note) Personnel found that the coating had come off of one low-level radioactive waste drum that was transported out to JNFL in March 2018. The relevant waste drum will be sent back to Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station (NPS) for a detailed investigation.

With regard to FY2018, plans were underway for Hamaoka NPS to transport low-level radioactive waste to JNFL in May this year.
However, water drops and coat peelings were found at the bottom of one of the 960 low-level radioactive waste (drums) Hamaoka NPS handed over to JNFL this March, and investigations are therefore underway at the moment. There had been other low-level radioactive waste scheduled for transportation in May, but a decision was made to deliver them after factoring in results of future cause investigations on the peeling event.
The drum in which personnel found coating spall will be sent back to Hamaoka NPS for detailed investigations.The remaining drums that were handed over to JNFL in March 2018 will likewise be returned if outcomes of future checks lead to determining the need for detailed investigations.
The changed transportation timing will be announced as soon as they are decided.
