Personnel found that coating had come off from one low-level radioactive waste drum that was transported out to Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited (JNFL) in March 2018. Chubu Electric Power accordingly decided to send that drum back to Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station (NPS) for a detailed investigation.

The remaining 959 drums, handed over to JNFL this March, were also checked afterward. As a result, one drum was found to be in a status similar to the one confirmed in April. As such, Chubu Electric Power decided to send two drums back to Hamaoka NPS for a detailed investigation.

Further, checks were done also for 928 drums stored at Hamaoka NPS, originally planned to be transported out and handed over to JNFL this May. One drum was consequently found to be in a similar status as the one confirmed at JNFL. Arrangements have therefore been made to perform detailed investigations together with the drums returned from JNFL.
