Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station Units 1 and 2 Entering Decommissioning Phase 3

On December 18, the Nuclear Regulation Authority approved our application for approval of changes to the decommissioning plan (Note 1) for Units 1 and 2 of the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station ("decommissioning plan"), submitted on March 14, 2024, as partially amended on July 26, November 12 and December 3, 2024, and our application for approval of changes to the Technical Specification for the Nuclear Reactor Facility (Note 2), submitted on June 6, 2024, as partially amended on December 3, 2024.
Upon receiving these approvals, we will start internal procedures to implement the decommissioning of Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station Units 1 and 2, which will be shifted to Phase 3 of the decommissioning process on December 25.
We will prepare a detailed work plan based on the approved decommissioning plan and Technical Specification, and proceed with the dismantling work under a fully organized structure once the site work is ready.

Chubu Electric Power will steadily proceed with the decommissioning of Units 1 and 2, placing the highest priority on safety and ensuring transparency.

(Note 1) The decommissioning plans for Units 1 and 2 of the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station stipulate the overall plan for the safe and reliable dismantling of the reactor facilities of Units 1 and 2, as well as the details of the work to be performed and safety assurance measures to be taken in the decommissioning process. The decommissioning of Units 1 and 2 will be conducted in four phases, from Phase 1 "Preparation Period for Dismantling" to Phase 4 "Period of Dismantlement of Buildings, etc."
(Note 2) Based on the Act on the Regulation of Nuclear Source Material, Nuclear Fuel Material and Reactors, the Technical Specification for the Nuclear Reactor Facility stipulates the items (safety organizations, safety measures, etc.) to be observed by the nuclear reactor installer in the safe operation and decommissioning of the nuclear power plant.
