Chubu Electric Power Company-Wide Disaster Management Drill (Involving Participation of the Nuclear Regulation Authority and Maintaining / Improving Capacity to Respond to Emergencies)

On September 5, 2013, some 4,000 people including our employees took part in a company-wide emergency drill in readiness for the Nankai Trough Megaquake measuring Magnitude 9 and tsunami.

This time, Director-General for Emergency Response of Nuclear Regulatory Authority joined the Emergency Response HQ at the head office for the first time to examine the information liaison system between the government's emergency HQ, our head office and the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station.

At the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station, the Simulator room was used to practice emergency response under the scenario that all the power supplies (AC power supplies) are lost, similarly to Fukushima Daiichi. In addition, participants underwent on-site trainings on switching to alternative power supplies, initiating an alternative means of water injection using makeup pumps and operating vent valves in an effort to maintain and enhance their emergency response capabilities.
