Capital and Business Alliance with "Japan Data Science Consortium Co., Ltd.," an AI startup company from the University of Tokyo

October 19, 2020
Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc.

Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. and Japan Data Science Consortium Co., Ltd. (President: Satoshi Kato; head office in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; "JDSC") announced today that the two companies have agreed on a business alliance for developing services using electric power data, and Chubu Electric Power has acquired the shares of JDSC by underwriting a portion of the new third-party shares allotted by JDSC.

JDSC works on resolving common industrial challenges in collaboration with companies in various industries, through joint DX (digital transformation) promotion and AI implementation. It has provided many solutions thus far, such as demand forecast solutions, frailty* detection using power data (identifying signs for requiring nursing care), and solutions for avoiding unattended deliveries, etc.

Through this business alliance, Chubu Electric Power shall promote healthcare services that use frailty detection, and accelerate the development of new services using power data, as part of its efforts to "provide a new form of community" which is set forth in its management vision.

This investment will be contributed by the Chubu Electric Power Community Support Fund, a corporate venture capital fund established in April 2019 as an internal fund for swiftly investing in startups with advanced technology or revolutionary business models as well as other venture capital funds.

*Condition of being between healthy and requiring nursing care, where declines in physical and cognitive functions are observed. Early frailty detection and response is important, as adequate prevention and treatment may prevent individuals from requiring nursing care.
