Establishment of Genonics Ltd. Offering Genetic Testing Services

Today, Fujita Innovation Capital, Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fujita Academy (Chairman: Kiyotaka Hoshinaga; “Fujita Innovation Capital”), and Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (President & Director: Kingo Hayashi; “Chubu Electric Power”) established Genonics Ltd. (“new company”) to offer genetic testing services.

The new company is committed to providing generic test results that are scientifically precise and intuitively understandable as well as health promotion services, and applying these developments to healthcare and medicine.

Constituted by an academy (Fujita Health University) possessing a wealth of genetic analysis expertise, personnel and other resources, this new company will aim to promote advanced genomic health solutions in addition to constructing a healthcare platform through the launch of services with Chubu Electric Power Group’s highly secure data platform and other tools.

Through Genonics, both Fujita Innovation Capital and Chubu Electric Power will work to prevent disease, proactively promote health, and solve other healthcare challenges, as well as make advances in concert with community-based programs and contribute to local communities’ sustainable development.

[Origin of Genonics]

The establishment of Genonics originated in heightened public awareness about disease prevention as well as health maintenance and improvement. It also came about from the anticipated increase in demand for genetic testing which will enable health promotion based upon the individual’s genetic profile and selection of treatment remedies which are grounded in effective disease risk determinations and genetic research results. The hope is that these efforts will provide solutions to the challenge that society faces of a strained medical system due to the declining birthrate and aging population.

[Specific Activities]

Beginning in the second half of FY2021, Genonics will start offering services, including the provision of disease risk assessment based on genetic analysis results and indicators for selecting remedies based on genetic research results, to Fujita Health University Hospital patients. With an eye toward collaborating with corporate health insurance associations and patients at other medical institutions in the future, Genonics is also committed to offering services linked with annual health screening data that will contribute to raising individuals’ awareness about their own health.
