Capital Participation in Ichikawa Kankyo Holdings, Which Operates Business for the Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy

Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (hereinafter “Chubu Electric Power”) and Kubota Corporation (hereinafter “Kubota”) each acquired the equivalent of 27.8% of shares of Ichikawa Kankyo Holdings Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Ichikawa Kankyo Holdings”), which operates business for the resource efficiency and circular economy.

In recent years, as companies’ efforts towards SDGs have become more and more important, interest in business for the resource efficiency and circular economy, which make use of unused resources such as food waste and plastic waste, has increased. In the 50 years since its founding, the Ichikawa Kankyo Group is highly regarded in the industry to have deployed pioneering efforts such as biogas power generation and plastic recycling in order to expand its waste processing business into business for the resource efficiency and circular economy.

In its Management Vision 2.0, the Chubu Electric Power Group has set forth its goal to realize a circular economy and society that is appropriate for the community and the coming era with respect to regional issues such as decarbonization, revitalization of primary industries and reduction of public burden. Chubu Electric Power will take advantage of the Ichikawa Kankyo Group’s abundant accomplishments and knowledge to first work on biogas power generation and plastic recycling that makes use of unused resources such as food and agricultural residue, and through the Chubu Electric Power Group’s connections with the community that we have cultivated thus far, we will provide new solutions in order to respond to regional issues and our customers’ needs.

The Kubota Group has technologies and products related with waste processing, such as incinerators, melting furnaces and shredding machines, and its business includes designing, constructing, operating treatment facilities managed by national and local governments and private businesses, as well as undertaking maintenance work. As part of its efforts towards realizing solutions to promote the circulation of water resources and waste as stated in its long-term vision “GMB2030,” Kubota has invested in Ichikawa Kankyo Holdings, which has abundant achievements, knowledge, and networks regarding the business for the resource efficiency and circular economy, as a collaboration partner, and is aiming to establish a resource circulation solution business that contributes to the formation of a recycling-based society.     

By combining Chubu Electric Power and Kubota’s ample management resources with the Ichikawa Kankyo Group’s abundant achievements and knowledge in the resource circulation business, Chubu Electric Power and Kubota will strongly promote our efforts towards the realization of a circular economy and society.
