Investment in Aridagawa Biomass K.K. ~We will participate in the biomass power generation business in Aridagawa, Wakayama Prefecture~

December 27, 2021
Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc.

Today, Chubu Electric Power invested in Aridagawa Biomass K.K. (Head Office: Aridagawa, Arida-gun, Wakayama Prefecture; President: Kenya Harami; “Aridagawa Biomass”) as an anonymous association (Note).

Since August 2021, Aridagawa Biomass has been constructing the Aridagawa Biomass Power Plant (“the power plant”) in Aridagawa, Arida-gun, Wakayama Prefecture, which will have a power output of 900kW and will mainly use unused thinned wood, etc., produced in Wakayama Prefecture as fuel. It is scheduled to begin commercial operation in August 2022.

The power plant will be our company’s first wood gas generation-type biomass power plant.

Furthermore, the power plant will supply the heat produced during power generation to the chip manufacturing plant located on the same property for drying the wood chips that are used as fuel as well as to the neighboring hot bath facility, thus contributing to further efficient utilization of local resources.

The Chubu Electric Power Group has positioned renewable energy as one of its main power sources that will contribute to achieving a carbon-free society and enhancing energy self-sufficiency, and we will continue active development in order to achieve our goal of “an expansion of 3.2 million kW or more by around 2030.”

(Note) A capital structure stipulated in Commercial Law in which multiple companies (silent partners) invest in an independent business and the profits that arise from the business are distributed in accordance with the investment ratio. The silent partners do not have any rights or obligations in the management of the business. It is called an anonymous association, as the companies’ names are generally not revealed to any trading partners involved in the business.
