Establishment of Chuden Telemetering LLC

Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (President and CEO: Kingo Hayashi; “Chubu Electric Power”) and Chubu Electric Power Grid Co., Inc. (President: Ryuichi Shimizu; “Chubu Electric Power Grid”) today announces the establishment of Chuden Telemetering LLC, a telemetering service company specializing in automatic readings of gas and water meters using the smart meter communication network, on February 1, 2023. Chubu Electric Power will be transferring its telemetering service business to Chuden Telemetering on April 1, 2023.

As IoT technology advances and the workforce shrinks due to the falling birthrate and increasing aging population, the energy infrastructure sector such as electricity, gas, and water need to reduce costs while providing more sophisticated meter reading and maintenance services. Services that use metering data also need to be expanded even further.

In April 2021, Chubu Electric Power began providing telemetering services to gas and water companies in the Chubu area in order to solve the issues facing local communities. Since then, 15 LP gas companies have adopted the service, and are using it to automatically read meters for approximately 100,000 household customers.

Through the new company Chubu Telemetering, we aim to introduce telemetering services to a larger number of water and city gas companies. In addition to existing services, we will also work to develop new services that monitor and detect frailty in the elderly using meter reading data sorted by time of day, and services that allow customers to check their electricity, gas, and water usage and billing amounts on one smartphone app.

The Chubu Electric Power Group will continue to reform its business model to deliver new value sought by customers and local communities, and to provide services that go beyond energy to solve social issues and meet customer needs.
