Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. ("Chubu Electric Power") and Chubu Electric Power Miraiz Co., Inc. ("Miraiz") have jointly developed the radiation temperature measurement system, MiEL Thermo HT ("the product"), which enables automatic temperature measurement of heated objects in high temperature environments such as foundries.
Miraiz will begin accepting orders for the product today.

In casting, one of the production processes for metal products, it is necessary to control the pouring temperature appropriately to prevent the occurrence of defective products during the casting process in which molten metal is poured into molds at high heat. Currently, temperatures are typically measured manually using high-precision thermocouples (Note), but there is a need for unmanned or automated temperature control due to issues such as the intense workload in high-temperature environments, the need to interrupt other work each time to measure temperatures, and the inability to control the temperature of all castings.

The product uses an industrial camera to measure temperatures without any contact, and thus has a faster response speed to temperature changes than thermocouples, enabling automatic, continuous, and real-time measurement. In addition, the unique system allows measurement timing to be set according to the work process and work environment, and is insensitive to the material and color of the heated object surface, enabling highly accurate temperature measurement even when materials with different properties are mixed together.
The introduction of the product will reduce the number of personnel and work time required for temperature measurement in the casting process, contributing to improved productivity and automation of the production process, and will also enable appropriate quality control by outputting measured temperatures to control devices and other equipment.

Both companies will continue to create new value and contribute to the prosperity of customers and society through research, product development, and sales that assist factories and other customers in improving productivity and decarbonizing their operations.

(Note) A temperature sensor that uses two dissimilar metal wires in contact at their tips to measure temperature by using the weak voltage generated by the temperature difference at the junction.
