Hokkaido Electric Power Co., Inc., Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc., Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Incorporated, Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc., Hokuriku Electric Power Company, The Kansai Electric Power Company, Incorporated, The Chugoku Electric Power Co., Inc., Shikoku Electric Power Co., Inc., Kyushu Electric Power Company, Incorporated, The Japan Atomic Power Company, Electric Power Development Co., Ltd., and Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited (hereinafter collectively "Nuclear Operators") hereby announce that, in order to further strengthen the system of on-site medical care for nuclear disasters (Note 1), a basic agreement on occupational health support measures (Note 2) in on-site medical care for nuclear disasters has been concluded today with the University of Occupational and Environmental Health, Japan (hereinafter "UOEH").
As the importance of occupational health management and occupational health care under severe working conditions increases during nuclear disasters, Nuclear Operators have engaged in ongoing discussions regarding support from UOEH, which has extensive experience in providing occupational health support during the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station accident and natural disasters.
Through the conclusion of this agreement between Nuclear Operators and UOEH, both parties will collaborate during normal times to undertake initiatives such as securing occupational physicians who will respond on-site at nuclear facilities in the event of a disaster, thereby establishing a system that enables the prompt and appropriate dispatch of support teams operated by UOEH to on-site locations and the provision of guidance on occupational health management and occupational health.
Through this initiative, Nuclear Operators will continue to work to enhance the effectiveness of the on-site medical system for nuclear disasters and to ensure the health and safety of workers in the event of a disaster.
