Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc.

This is to report that the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (below, JAEA) and Chubu Electric Power today concluded a technical cooperation agreement to exchange technical information on decommissioning.

Currently, JAEA has been taking decommissioning measures on the Fugen nuclear test reactor since February 2008 at the Fugen Decommissioning Engineering Center*1, whereas Chubu Electric Power has been taking decommissioning measures on Reactors No. 1 and 2 at Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station since November 2009*2.

The conclusion of the technical cooperation agreement with JAEA is expected to let the two sides make better use of information relating to safety initiatives and the status of decommissioning, as well as the knowledge learned in the process of taking decommissioning measures, and therefore will help our decommissioning proceed safely and efficiently. Through this initiative, we will continue to work to ensure safety in our decommissioning activities.

*1  Fugen, an advanced thermal reactor, terminated operations March 29, 2003, and its decommissioning plan received the national government's approval on February 12, 2008. The reactor is currently undergoing decommissioning.

*2  Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station Reactors No. 1 and 2 terminated operations January 30, 2009, and their decommissioning plan received the national government's approval on November 18, 2009. The reactors are currently undergoing decommissioning.
