FY2009 Electric Power Sales Results

The volume of electric power sold reached 122,849 GWh, a decline of 5.3% YoY.

1. Demand for electricity other than extra high-voltage power services (i.e., general residential consumption): Down 1.5% YoY

(1) Lighting services (residential customers)

Although the number of service agreements increased, less use of air conditioning equipment due to lower air temperatures in summer compared to the previous year and other factors resulted in a 0.9% decline in sales volume YoY for this category.

(2) Power services (shop and small factory customers)

A declining number of service agreements, less use of air conditioning equipment due to the weather and other factors resulted in a 4.9% decline in sales volume YoY for this category.

2. Demand for extra high-voltage power services: Down 7.1% YoY

(1) Commercial (office building and commercial facility customers)

Less use of air conditioning equipment due to the weather and other factors resulted in a 1.5% decline in sales volume YoY for this category.

(2) Industrial and other (medium and large factory customers)

Owing to the deteriorating economy after fall 2008, a drop in production in nearly all industry sectors, including machinery and iron and steel, resulted in a 9.2% decline in sales volume YoY for this category.
