January 28, 2011
Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc.

Chubu Electric Power recommenced operation of Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station Reactor No. 5 at 6:20 on January 28, 2011.

In the future, output will be increased in stages. In addition to inspecting equipment and verifying the operating status at each stage, we will also be conducting a number of prescribed checks. After rated thermal output has been reached, we will verify that each piece of equipment in the reactor is able to operate stably and continuously, and when all inspections have been completed, the reactor will undergo its final inspection, the General Load Performance Inspection administered by the government.

If any equipment abnormalities are detected during the power adjustments, the necessary measures will be taken, and depending on these measures, it may be necessary to shut the reactor down again.

With the replacement of the low-pressure turbines, the rated output of Reactor No. 5 will increase to 1,380 MW from its previous 1,267 MW. When the power adjustments are completed, procedures for the modification of electric facilities will be conducted in accordance with the Electricity Business Act.
