Trade Contract Concluded to Purchase LNG from Ichthys LNG Project

Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (President: Akihisa Mizuno; head office: 1, Higashi-shincho, Higashi-ku, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture) and Toho Gas Co., Ltd. (President: Takashi Saeki; head office: 19-18, Sakurada-cho, Atsuta-ku, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture) today concluded a trade contract with Ichthys LNG Pty Ltd to purchase liquefied natural gas (LNG) produced by the Ichthys LNG Project (below, the project).

Japanese firms have taken a central role in the project. Natural gas produced from the Ichthys Gas-Condensate Field in the drilling zone off the coast of Western Australia will be refined and liquefied at a plant being constructed in Darwin, Northern Territory, which will begin operations in about October-December 2016 with anticipated shipments of 8.4 million tons of LNG annually.

Chubu Electric Power plans to purchase 490,000 tons of LNG per year over the 15 years of the contract starting in 2017, which will help us to procure LNG stably and economically.

We will continue to work for stable and economical fuel procurement and step up our ability to procure fuel on international markets to ensure a stable supply of electric power.
