Transport of Spent Nuclear Fuel Completed

Transportation of spent nuclear fuel to Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited's spent fuel receiving and storage facility was completed today, as described below.

Overview of Spent Fuel Transportation

Chubu Electric has shipped spent nuclear fuel from its Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station to a spent fuel receiving and storage facility of Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited based on a reprocessing contract with that company.

About the recently shipped spent fuel

The 50 spent fuel assemblies recently shipped include the fuel type "high combustion 8×8 fuel" used at Hamaoka No. 3 between March 1999 and June 2009.

Shipping containers were designed to pose no problem even under severe conditions, including falling from a height of nine meters or being exposed to 800°C for 30 minutes.

As announced on October 26, 2011, with this shipment, Chubu Electric is finished shipping spent fuel in FY2011.
