Chubu Electric Power accepted an assignment together with Nippon Koei Co., Ltd., from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) today to perform a "Preparatory Survey for Power Distribution Network Improvement Project in Major Regional Cities of Myanmar."
The Japanese government has announced that it will support infrastructure development and human resource development in Myanmar, involving both the public and private sectors. The study will be conducted to contribute to development of the power distribution network in major regional cities in Myanmar.
Last year we conducted a similar survey in the Yangon Urban Area. We believe that the experience and expertise from this will be beneficial to infrastructure development in Myanmar.
We are committed to continued support for Myanmar.
1 Project area:Major Regional Cities of Myanmar
2 Project period:November 2014 - June 2015 (approx.8 months)
3 Project overview
- Support for developing a distribution network improvement plan in major regional cities
- Support related to the selection of high priority power distribution projects and evaluation of the validity of the said selection
4 Project background
Along with recent economic development, the electric power demand in Myanmar is expected to increase from approximately 2,000MW in 2012 to approximately 4,800MW by 2020. However, Myanmar's stable supply of power has been greatly impacted by implementation of planned power outages due to capacity shortage and aging of power generation facilities, and by frequent occurrence of failure accidents caused by aging power transmission and distribution facilities. For this reason, improvement of power distribution facilities, as well as improvement of power generation facilities and transmission and transformer facilities, is urgent for this country.
