Change of Scheduled Start of Commercial Operation at Tokuyama Hydroelectric Power Station Unit 1

June 22, 2015
Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc.

Chubu Electric Power would like to announce that Tokuyama Hydroelectric Power Station Unit 1's start of commercial operation has been changed from the planned June 2015 to September of the same year.

While engaging in test runs to start commercial operation in June, Tokuyama Hydroelectric Power Station Unit 1 confirmed a deficiency in its equipment (i.e., a temperature rise in the thrust bearing; this is a device to support the rotating part of the hydraulic turbine generator). The station consequently shut down the test-running generator to perform internal inspections and to look into the cause of the deficiency.

As a result, the station concluded that insufficient cooling for the thrust bearing presumably caused the equipment deficiency. The station will add coolers and carry out other measures, and plans to initiate commercial operation immediately after reaching standards in the post-measure test run.

Chubu Electric Power will continue to reliably conduct the measures upon the kind understanding and cooperation from local residents and related parties, and also carry the construction forward to start commercial operation as soon as possible.
