Cenergy to Participate in Biomass Power Generation Business

Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (President and Director: Satoru Katsuno; Headquarters: Higashi-ku, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture; "Chubu Electric Power") would like to announce that its affiliate Cenergy Co.

(President and CEO : Tokihiko Yamada, Headquarters: Naka-ku, Nagoya City; "Cenergy") will jointly participate in biomass power generation business with Fuluhashi EPO Corporation (President and Director: Naohiko Yamaguchi, Headquarters: Naka-ku, Nagoya City, "Fuluhashi EPO") .

Environmental protection initiatives, including global warming countermeasures, are a part of Cenergy's key management issues. To develop environmentally-friendly renewable energy, Cenergy will join hands with Fuluhashi EPO, a Chubu area-based recycling operator that deals with construction waste timber and other materials, and establish a special purpose company named CEPO Handa Biomass Power Generation Co., Inc. in Handa City, Aichi Prefecture on April 27, 2017. The new company plans to erect in Handa a 50,000 kW-output biomass-fired power plant, the fuels of which are palm shells and recycled wood chips made from construction waste ("recycled wood chips"). The construction is scheduled to begin in October 2017, and the plant is to start operating in October 2019.

CEPO Handa Biomass Power Generation Co., Inc. will build the plant in accordance with relevant laws and regulations and will also take environmental protection under full consideration.

Chubu Electric Power Group, meanwhile, will continue developing renewable energy sources.
