Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (Headquarters: Higashi-ku, Nagoya City; President & Director: Satoru Katsuno; hereinafter "Chubu Electric Power"), Nayuta Inc. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City; Chief Executive Officer: Kenichi Kurimoto; hereinafter "Nayuta"), and Infoteria Corporation (Tokyo Head Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President & Chief Executive Officer: Yoichiro Hirano; hereinafter "Infoteria") are proud to announce that today demonstration tests will begin at Chubu Electric Power's Research & Development Division (Midori-ku, Nagoya) on a technology that harnesses blockchain (see note) in managing charging records of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles alike (hereinafter "EVs").
This demonstration test pairs Nayuta's blockchain-compatible charging outlet with Infoteria's smartphone app through the internet or with Bluetooth, record EV charging history (i.e. when and who charged EVs) on blockchain, thereby looking at a technology that both manages charging history and ensures security.
With this technology, it will become possible to run a highly reliable charging management system based on a low introduction cost. That likely would create new services by, for instance, enabling multi-unit dwelling owners to install EV charging equipment at reasonable prices.
By finding solutions to technological challenges identified through the demonstration test, Chubu Electric Power, Nayuta, and Infoteria will develop new services that bring convenience to customers' lives.
(Note) Blockchain is a technology in which all terminals belonging to network share information, in turn building an interconnected system that is resistant to information-tampering. Because there is no need to install a server to manage information in a centralized manner, blockchain makes it possible to inexpensively build a network.
