On Starting Construction of an Integrated Pure Bio-jet Fuel Production Demonstration Facility

December 03, 2018
Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc.

Chubu Electric Power is proud to announce that it has started construction of an integrated pure bio-jet fuel production demonstration facility (Note 1) on the premises of the Shin-Nagoya Thermal Power Station.

The fuel will be made from woody biomass.

The construction of the factory is a joint venture with Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. (hereinafter "MHPS"), Toyo Engineering Corporation (hereinafter "TOYO"), and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (hereinafter "JAXA") based on a commission by the "Bio-jet Fuel Production Technology Development Business" of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (hereinafter "NEDO").

Chubu Electric Company is participating in this demonstration in an effort to expand its business areas.

The aim of this demonstration is to establish technology to produce pure bio-fuel in an integrated manner using technologies and skills such as Chubu Electric Power's facility operation and maintenance skills, MHPS' "atmospheric pressure oxygen/steam supply entrained bed gasification technology" (Note 2), TOYO's "micro-channel FT synthesis technology" (Note 3) and JAXA's combustion characteristics assessment skills.

We will continue to promote initiatives to expand business areas and help reduce the burden on the global environment by reducing CO2 emissions in the aviation field.

(Note 1) Aviation fuel made from 100% biomass materials

(Note 2) Technology that shoot up oxygen and steam at a high speed from the bottom of the gasification furnace to turn biomass materials into gas in a uniform and highly efficient manner.

(Note 3) Technology to synthesize liquid fuel from flammable gases carbon monoxide and hydrogen through catalytic reactions
