Regarding participation in Power Distribution and Retail Sales business for New Clark City in Philippines

Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (hereinafter, CEPCO), Manila Electric Company (hereinafter, MERALCO), Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter, Marubeni) and The Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. (hereinafter, Kansai) have decided to jointly participate in Power Distribution and Retail Sales business (hereinafter, the Project) for New Clark City (hereinafter, NCC*) in the Philippines.
In the Philippines, the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (hereinafter, BCDA) is proceeding to develop NCC at the vacant land used as US Air Force Bases. The Project is to conduct power distribution and retail sales business in NCC for 25 years, including design, construction, operation and maintenance of power distribution system utilizing smart grid technologies.
CEPCO, MERALCO, Marubeni group, Kansai group and BCDA will establish a joint venture company (hereinafter, JVC) in the Philippines and supply electricity for SEA Games held in NCC on the end of November 2019.
CEPCO would like to contribute to continuous development of NCC by fully leveraging its experience on highly reliable and low cost distribution system while acquiring knowledge and know-how through the construction of smart-grid, which will be used for future projects of this kind.
(Note)NCC is a large scale new city which BCDA is planning to develop at the vacant land of former Clark US Air Force Bases(9,450ha). NCC is nominated as one of the national projects, which seeks solutions of issue that Manila, capital city of the Philippines, is suffering from, such as traffic jam and high population density, aiming to increase number of residents to 1.2M and create 0.8M employments by 2065 through relocation of government facilities, construction of highways, etc.
