Receipt of a Request for Additional Reporting from the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Pursuant to Article 106, Paragraph 3 of the Electricity Business Act Regarding Improper Practices in the Formulation of Design Basis Earthquake Motions During the Compliance Review for the New Regulatory Standards at the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station

On January 5, 2026, received a request for a report from the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry pursuant to Article 106, Paragraph 3 of the Electricity Business Act. This request was issued after the Nuclear Regulation Authority confirmed, during its review of the compliance of Hamaoka Nuclear Power Plant Units 3 and 4 with the new regulatory standards under the Nuclear Reactor Regulation Act, that the evaluation of seismic motion at the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Plant had been conducted using inappropriate methods (hereinafter "the Incident"). We submitted a report today regarding the facts and circumstances known at this time.(Press release issued on March 31, 2026)
We hereby announce that today, based on the content of the aforementioned report, we received a request from the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry for an additional report regarding the items listed below, pursuant to the provisions of Article 106, Paragraph 3 of the Electricity Business Act.
We sincerely and deeply apologize for the occurrence of this incident.
We will respond appropriately to this request for additional reporting.
Summary of the Request for Additional Reporting
1 Report on the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident, based on the findings of the Third-Party Committee's investigation, along with the status of our response to the incident.
2 Identify and analyze the causes of the incident, consider effective measures to prevent recurrence based on the findings of the Third-Party Committee's investigation, and report on these measures along with a schedule for their implementation.
3 Report on the existence of any other similar incidents of concern within the departments involved in this case, from the perspective of prioritizing safety.
4 Report on the above matters promptly as soon as they are compiled.
